Knocked-out Tooth

Teeth can be knocked out while participating in a wide variety of physical activities. Once a tooth is knocked out please try and locate the tooth. Do not brush off the dirt. This could damage the underlying roots. If possible, place the tooth back in the socket. If it does not fit, put the tooth in a bag or bottle of milk. Next, call us immediately.

Broken Tooth.

If your tooth has been broken, please try and locate the broken piece. To preserve the tooth, place it in a bag or jar of milk. With broken teeth, there are a couple of different ways to restore them all depending on the specific circumstances. At Rider Family Dentistry, we will try to save as much of the tooth as possible.

Other Emergencies

Although these emergencies might not need immediate attention, the health of your teeth is important to us and we suggest that if you are suffering from one of the below dental issues, call and schedule an appointment to see us.

Constant Swollen & Bleeding Gums.

Gums can swell and bleeding can indicate that there is something wrong. If you have been suffering from this for multiple days, it is important to see a dental professional to be diagnosed and prevent extreme dental issues.

Cracked or Chipped Tooth.

Small cracks and chips do not pose an immediate threat to your oral health or your tooth, but if left unfixed long enough it can become a problem. Cracks and chips leave an opening for decay to infect a tooth.

Toothache.

Although a toothache or a cavity can only be diagnosed by a dentist, if you have constant sharp and throbbing pain in a specific tooth, it’s a good indication that it could be infected.

How To Prevent A Dental Emergency

It is important to take steps to prevent a dental emergency before they happen. One way to prevent a dental emergency is through good hygiene. Often dental emergencies occur because a tooth is weakened due to disease and decay. Keeping your teeth healthy at home begins with brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash twice a day. Additionally, it is important to visit Rider Family Dentistry every six months for a dental exam and cleaning. Another way to prevent a dental emergency is to wear a mouthguard during sports. This will help protect your teeth from getting knocked out during a game. Further, you can prevent dental emergencies by avoiding eating ice and chewing on hard non-edible objects, like nails. It is also not advised to open things with your teeth.

We are here to help our patients and any other residents of Cherokee, Iowa that require an emergency dentist. From broken teeth to toothaches, we will help you resolve your dental emergency.
