Your Orthodontic Options

Catering to your specific needs is what we do best here at Rider Family Dentistry. We understand that for some, receiving braces isn’t the most exciting option. For this reason, we offer two different orthodontic options for our patients to choose from, depending on their specific cases. For more information about traditional metal braces and Invisalign clear aligners, read below.

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are for anyone undergoing orthodontic treatment. Traditional braces are one of the best ways to straighten misaligned teeth and a malpositioned jaw. With traditional braces, a combination of many appliances is used, including metal brackets and archwires. These appliances work together to put pressure on your teeth to move into a better position to correct crowded teeth, malpositioned jaws, and misaligned bites. Patients undergoing traditional metal braces treatment will come into the Rider Family Dentistry Office every few weeks for tightenings. Patients also have the pleasure of choosing different colored bands for their brace’s brackets. Many patients choose their favorite colors, holiday themes, or sports team colors. This is the fun part of metal braces for many patients.

More commonly, traditional braces are seen being used on younger children and teenagers. Yet, Rider Family Dentistry has seen an increase of adults that want the traditional method.

Invisalign

With Invisalign clear aligners, patients have the option to go through orthodontic treatment without it being visible to others. Sets of Invisalign aligners are custom-made and given to the patient to wear and transition throughout their treatment. Each set pushes the teeth a little closer to their end goal.

The majority of patients who choose Invisalign are adults who are self-conscious about having braces and want to maintain a professional appearance. Teenagers may also qualify for Invisalign once speaking with Dr. Rider.

Traditional Metal Braces Advantages

One advantage of traditional metal braces is that they are an affordable option compared to clear aligners. Further, traditional braces are also usually covered by insurance. For patients that are rougher with their teeth, metal brackets may be right for them. This is because braces are strong and durable. Another reason patients love traditional braces is that they are more effective for complicated procedures. Finally, traditional braces are a great option because they can straighten almost any misaligned teeth.

Invisalign Advantages

There are several advantages to Invisalign treatment. One is that patients can eat and drink what they would like. This is because Invisalign should be removed while eating and drinking. An advantage of Invisalign over other clear aligners is that Invisalign is made of SmartTrack technology. This technology makes your aligner more comfortable to wear and creates more calculated predictable alignments. Additionally, Invisalign fits comfortably over your gums because it is a custom fit.
